The police on Friday arraigned a 55-year-old teacher, Olufemi Akinyemi, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly sexually assaulting a pupil.
Akinyemi, of No. 20, Alara Estate, Akute, Ogun State, is charged with sexual assault and inappropriate behavior.
The Prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offences occurred on March 10 at a private school in Anthony Village, Lagos.
He alleged that Akinyemi sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl when she returned a textbook to his office.
He alleged that the defendant touched the pupil inappropriately and kissed her before she ran out to report the incident to the hostel mistress.
Ademigbuji said the offences contravened Sections 263 and 264 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Akinyemi pleaded not guilty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 263 and 264 prescribe a three-year prison term for offenders.
Chief Magistrate Mrs Omolara Kushanu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until May 14 for mention. (NAN)
