Mali’s Acting President, Dionsconda Traore has commended Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara for his inputs in the resolution of the situation in Mali.
Traore stated this while speaking to newsmen after meeting with the Ouattara on Tuesday in Abidjan.
He said that the Ivorian president and Chairman of ECOWAS came out with great commitment to ensure that normalcy returned to Mali.
Traore said his visit was to thank Ouattara for his show of commitment and concern in the face of the crisis that rocked Mali.
“ Mali went through difficult times, we are at the end of the tunnel, this became possible with the commitment shown by my brother Ouattara and leaders of other brother countries.
“This show of brotherly concern helped us to hold a transparent election, we must say thank you to the president and Chairman of ECOWAS,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mali, a former French colony was hit by a coup in 2012 and a rebellion in the North that raised alarm for the emergence of terrorism in Africa.
Mali had concluded its presidential polls with the election of former Prime Minister, Boubacar Keita, as its next president.
The Keita who emerged winner of the second round of the polls with 77.6 per cent of the votes cast will be Mali’s fifth president since it gained independence from France
Keita had already visited three African countries including Chad, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso to thank Malians in those countries and the governments for their supports.(NAN)
