Trinity University, Yaba, has appointed its first professor since commencing academic operations in 2019, marking a major milestone in the institution’s academic and research development journey.

Mr Michael Bamigbola, Acting Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, announced in a statement on Tuesday the promotion of Modupeade Adetunji, a Food Microbiologist and Mycotoxicologist, from Associate Professor to Professor.

The statement noted that the appointment followed approval by the Trinity University Governing Council during its 26th regular meeting.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, described the promotion as a defining moment in Trinity University’s growth trajectory and evidence of the institution’s academic maturity and research advancement.

Kolawole stated that Adetunji surpassed all requirements during departmental, faculty, and external evaluations, adding that her publications, research contributions, and community service reflected readiness for the promotion.

“This promotion signals that Trinity University has truly come of age. Her publications, research contributions, and community service reflected readiness for this elevation,” he said.

Similarly, the Registrar,  Mr David Oyejide, described the appointment as evidence of Trinity University’s steady rise toward international academic visibility, innovation, research development, and sustainable capacity-building within higher education.

Oyejide said Adetunji previously served as Acting Head of Biological Sciences, Acting Dean, and Director of Academic Planning, contributing significantly toward strengthening academic structures and quality assurance systems.

Meanwhile, according to the statement, Adetunji described the elevation as a significant achievement that reflects dedication, faith, mentorship, and sustained commitment to academic excellence and institutional development over the years.

“This is more than a career milestone. Being named Trinity University’s pioneer professor reminds me that dedication, faith, and mentorship always bear fruit,” she said.

She explained that the promotion came at a strategic period as Trinity University steadily transforms into a research-driven institution with growing continental and international academic relevance and recognition.

Adetunji added that the appointment represented a responsibility to uplift people and strengthen institutional standards, while also reflecting Trinity University’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent through mentorship and purposeful leadership.

She adds” the new position expands my responsibilities toward strengthening postgraduate training, attracting research grants, building laboratories, and fostering industry collaborations in food safety and scientific research development.”(NAN)
