A 46-year-old man, Olaniyi Fakeye, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan for allegedly stabbing his ex-wife on the shoulder.
Fakaye, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of peace and assault brought against him by the police.
The court’s President, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akintayo added that each of the sureties must provide a valid means of identification.
She then adjourned the suit until June 11 for hearing.
The prosecuting counsel, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had earlier informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the crime on March 25, at about 9.30 p.m.
The crime scene, he said, was the University College Hospital (UCH) staff quarters, Ibadan.
According to Ayeni, the defendant unleashed mayhem on his ex-wife, Bosede, by stabbing her with a broken bottle on the shoulder, thus inflicting a serious bodily injury on her.
He noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 249 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)
