Donald Trump has officially clinched the presidency of the United States, capturing votes from a majority of the 538 members of the Electoral College.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., Trump crossed the 270-vote threshold when Texas reported 36 of its 38 electors backed the GOP nominee for president. The remaining two went for Ohio Gov. John Kasich and libertarian Ron Paul.

Though anti-Trump forces had hoped to mount a last minute revolt among the Electoral College members, their efforts never gained traction.

In Washington State four electors rejected Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, casting three votes for Republican Colin Powell and one for Native American environmental activist Faith Spotted Eagle.

The votes will be sent to Congress for official certification on Jan. 6.
