The Tunisian Interior Ministry has stated that 423 people have been arrested since January 17, as the country has been gripped by large demonstrations over jobs and economic conditions. The ministry’s press service stated that 84 people were arrested on Friday night, while a total of 109 law enforcement officers have been injured over the course of the last week. The protests started after an unemployed 28-year-old who missed out on a government job was electrocuted on January 16 as he climbed an electrical transmission tower during a protest in the city of Kasserine.
