UN to help Lebanon improve living conditions of women, children — Official

Lebanon’s Presidency reported on Friday that the United Nations would increase support for programmes that aim to improve the living conditions of women and children.

Najat Maalla M’jid, UN special representative of the secretary-general on violence against children, said she will discuss with the Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, to find a common ground that would allow the promotion and activation of these programmes and their development.

The UN official’s remarks came during her meeting at Baabda Palace with Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

M’jid stressed that her visit to Lebanon aims to highlight the importance of strategies with a purpose to prevent violence and child labor, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak which has negatively impacted economic conditions in all countries and the social life of women and children.

Aoun called upon the United Nations to continue supporting Lebanon to enable it to accomplish its humanitarian goals by securing the needs of Lebanese and non-Lebanese on its territories. (Xinhua/NAN)
