UN to partner First Lady on pet project

The United Nations (UN) has expressed its readiness to work with the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, through her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), to address challenges confronting the nation.

The UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Mohammed Fall, disclosed this on Wednesday in the State House, Abuja, during a visit to the first lady.

Mohammed said that the UN was looking forward to engaging with the first lady on the lined-up programmes of the RHI, specifically those that border on women, children, and poverty eradication.

She acknowledged the efforts of the first lady on women’s empowerment and reproductive health and congratulated the government for the successes recorded in the health sector.

“I believe the women are at the center, and that was due to the support that you give.

“When we met in New York, we discussed quite a number of issues, some with women, the lesprivileged, and the vulnerable, and you stressed that you really wanted to make sure that they were not behind,’’ she said.

Mohammed said the UN looked forward to engaging with the first lady in areas of support.

“We are embarking on a new friendly community programme for the IDPs called `Solution Pathways.

She said the UN is taking particular interest in issues concerning the IDPs and the youth.

The first lady, in her response, commended the UN for all its support and for identifying with the nation.

She promised to keep supporting her husband’s administration through her pet project to ensure that things are better for Nigerians.(NAN)
