The new captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Seyi Alaba, has assured that he and his executive committee members will perform optimally and leave no room for excuses.
Alaba, who defeated Wale Olagoke 111-57 to emerge as the club’s captain for the next year, said he and his team would strive to take the club to a higher level.
“In the past few weeks, my team and I have been working hard towards getting elected, and we thank God it ended in praise.
“As we are right now, we cannot afford to disappoint the club. This club is an elitist club and the best club we have in Nigeria.
“We must maintain the tradition everybody knows us for and move the club to greater heights.
“Myself and the newly-elected committee, like I said, won’t give any excuse but push our club to the very best level. We promise to do that,” he said.
Alaba further promised to work on the club’s course and its physical structure and also improve on what the immediate-past executive committee has done.
“Everything we said in our manifesto, we are committed to it, and we will promote the image of the club better than before and put IGC in the limelight. That is my promise,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alaba, who was the club’s immediate-past Second Vice-Captain, emerged as its 26th captain, with Bernard Nduka as Second Vice-Captain.
Other winners were Adekunle Akinpelu as secretary, Tunde Awodire as course officer, and Bunmi Oladimeji as competition secretary.
Speaking also, a former captain of the club, Bayo Adeleke, charged the new executive committee not to disappoint members but to improve on what their predecessors had achieved.
He encouraged every member of the club to support the new executive committee members to enable them to achieve their goals for the club.
Another member of the club, Biodun Olatunji, said he was optimistic that the Alaba-led executive committee would achieve this and move the club forward.
He said Alaba’s emergence as captain was a good development for the club and a new dawn in the life of the club.
“We have been looking for an innovative, elite, and classic leader to take IGC to the next level.
“I’m very certain that the quality we all saw in him while voting for him will help him take this club to the next level,” Olatunji, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said.(NAN)
