The Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Mr Dennis Guwor, has enjoined Christian faithful to continue to uphold the true essence of Easter in their daily lives.
Guwor stressed the need for Christians to reflect on the import of the celebration by exhibiting sustained love and willingness to sacrifice in their day-to-day lives
This is contained in a message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, on Saturday in Asaba.
The speaker noted that the admonition became necessary due to the prevailing disconnect among the people in terms of true love, mutual respect, and genuine affection for one another.
He said that the absence of the three elements was capable of endangering sustainable peace, unity of purpose, and development in society.
Guwor emphasised that Easter is not just a celebration but a period of sober reflection and genuine reconciliation with God.
“As Christians all over the world mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as epitomised by Easter, I congratulate the people of Delta for the religious event and enjoin them to reflect on the essence of the celebration.
“Easter is a period in the global calendar when Christians mark the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He died for the love he had for mankind.
“We need so much genuine love and sacrifices to grow our country, Nigeria,” he said.
“The Bible tells us that Jesus, the only Son of God, whom it is recorded had no sin, chose to suffer and die for the sins of the world. No other sacrifice or love could be stronger than this.
“Therefore, if we profess to be followers of this sinless heavenly being, it certainly behoves us to follow in His footsteps by extending the same love to our neighbours.”
The speaker also urged the Christian community to use the period to pray for the state and the country at large.
Guwor, while saying that the country is going through myriad challenges that bothered largely the economy and security, emphasised the need for Christians to remember the country in their collective and individual prayers, particularly during this period of Easter.
He expressed the hope and faith that through such prayers, God would continue to intervene in the affairs of the country, adding that Nigeria remained in the hands of God.
The speaker also enjoined the leadership of the Christian community to always emphasize the need for good morals among their followers and, indeed, the larger society.
“It is my hope and prayer that this period will usher us into more peaceful, glorious, and positive lives.
“As we celebrate, may God give us the true essence and benefit of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
”On behalf of my family, constituents, and the state assembly, I wish the good people of Delta a happy Easter celebration,” he said. (NAN)
