World Food Day: Oyo urges food sufficiency

The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to support farmers and youths in a bid to achieve food sufficiency.

This is contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, to commemorate the 2021 World Food Day on Saturday in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for this year’s celebration is: “Our Actions are our future; Better production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and Better Life.”

Olatubosun reassured the farmers and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector of an enabling environment to ensure food security.

Olatunbosun said that the Gov. Seyi Makinde led-administration was doing its best to put an end to hunger and promote healthy living in the state.

He called on stakeholders to come up with ideas and suggestions that would lead to improved productivity, profitability and sustainability of the food value chain in the state.

“The World Food Day presents an opportunity to appreciate what the state government has been able to do to ensure food sufficiency and the encouragement of local food contents consumed in the state.

“The main objective of the celebration is to heighten public awareness on the problems of hunger, malnutrition, and poverty, as well as proffer solution to problems of agriculture and food production,” he said. (NAN)
