2 men in court for alleged phone theft worth N780, 000

Two men, Ahmed Ali and Abubakar Rabiu, on Tuesday appeared before a Wuse Chief Magistrates’ Court Abuja, over alleged criminal use of force and theft of phones worth N780,000.

Ali and Rabiu of Zimbabwe Galadimawa, Abuja was charged with criminal use of force, joint act, assault, theft and intimidation.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

The Prosecutor, Catherine Okafor, told the court that the complainant, one Mrs kave Nguhemen of Sunnyvale Estate, Abuja reported the matter at the Police Headquarters, Abuja on May 7.

“On that same date, the complainant went to supply Coca cola products to a customer.

“The defendants dishonestly attacked the complainant, pushed her to the ground, and intimidated with a scissors.

“During the assault, the defendants forcefully collected the complaint’s office Samsung phone valued N700, 000 and a personal Huawei phone valued N80, 000,” she alleged.

Okafor told the court that while the defendants were in the act, the complainant raised an alarm and were caught by passers-by.

She alleged that during police investigation and interrogation, the defendants could not give a satisfactory account of their actions.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 79, 263, 265, 397, and 287 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000, with one surety each in like sum.

Ekpeyong said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide a reliable means of identification.

She adjourned the case until June 22, for hearing. (NAN)
