A total of 1,953 corps members completed the National Youth Service Corps 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation exercise in Bayelsa, marking the end of the mandatory 21-day camping programme on Tuesday officially.

The closing ceremony took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, where officials urged corps members to remain disciplined throughout their mandatory national service year programme.

Gov. Douye Diri urged corps members to make their service in Bayelsa and Nigeria memorable, emphasizing the importance of dedication, patriotism and commitment as they concluded the mandatory orientation camping exercise successfully.

The governor advised corps members to take their Places of Primary Assignment seriously and strive to make positive impacts through knowledge-sharing, community development and responsible conduct during their one-year national service in Bayelsa.

Represented by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on NYSC Matters, Mr Wisdom Poyeri, Diri appealed to corps members to embrace tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence at their various Places of Primary Assignment.

He assured the corps members that the Bayelsa Government remained committed to supporting them throughout their service year, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities across the state.

The governor also urged the corps members to apply the lessons learnt during the orientation course, noting that the experience and training acquired would serve as valuable tools for their future endeavors.

“I urge you to impact meaningfully on what you have been taught in the camp, for it can be a light to others in the society.

“Please do not disappoint yourselves, your school and your parents for their support to make you a better person in the society.

“Bayelsa and Nigeria are counting on you to impact good conduct in Bayelsa for the future generations,” he added while encouraging corps members to remain exemplary ambassadors throughout their national service year.

The governor pledged the Bayelsa Government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members, assuring them of continued support while serving the country in various communities across Bayelsa successfully.(NAN)
