The Yobe Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Garba, has called on the public to cooperate with security agencies in addressing security challenges in the state.
He made the call at a news conference after a state security meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Gubana, on Wednesday in Damaturu.
Garba said the meeting deliberated on several security issues, including the need for indigenes to assist security agencies with useful information.
He emphasised that the public should report any security issues to the nearest constituted authority for prompt attention, rather than taking the law into their hands.
The commissioner added that the meeting had addressed the issue of the Fulani/Herders crisis, acknowledging the complex challenges faced by both parties.
He encouraged open communication and collaboration between the two.
He emphasised that early reporting of crisis would allow prompt investigation and peaceful resolution through mediation or other appropriate means.
Garba added that boundary issues were also discussed during the meeting, and the deputy governor, who is in charge of boundary issues, promised to give special attention to border-related conflicts to prevent people from taking the law into their hands.
He announced a forthcoming presidential visit to the state in July, which led to intensified security measures.
He urged the public not to view some of the security measures as strange, but to cooperate with security agencies to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively. (NAN
