The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC), said it had procured electoral materials for the 1,714 polling units for elections in the 17 Local Government Councils in the state.
The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Jauro, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Damaturu.
The chairman explained that “except the ballot papers, all other materials, including the updated voter register, ballot boxes and logistics have been obtained by the commission”.
NAN reports that the election was earlier slated to hold in June this year but was postponed, due to security challenges.
Muhammad, who assured that the commission was fully prepared for the election said: “all we are waiting for is improvement in the security situation.
”From April when we announced the postponement of the earlier scheduled date to now, there has been great improvement in the security situation across the state, we hope it will be sustained and improved upon for a conducive atmosphere for the election.”
Jauro commended political parties, security agencies and other stakeholders for their contributions toward preparations for the election.
The chairman assured that the commission would maintain its open door policy through the stakeholders’ forum to give people opportunity to contribute to the success of the election.
He noted that the arrangement put in place would give every electorate the right to exercise his civic duty as “we have taken all measures to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised in this election”. (NAN)
