Assemblyman Shamsudeen Hassan representing Talata-Mafara, Zamfara House of Assembly, has promised to sponsor the enrolment of 1, 000 out of school children in his constituency.

Hassan stated this in Talata-Mafara town on Thursday while receiving lawmakers from Oyo State, Nasarawa State and Bayelsa houses of Assembly

The lawmakers’ visit to Zamfara was part of activities of Legislative Peer Learning Visit organised by Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA Africa), a civil society organisation.

Hassan said that the partnership between the legislator and YIAGA Africa was aimed at complementing the state government’s efforts to support the future of the state.

“I learn that there are a lot of out-of-school-children in this constituency, therefore, I decided to come up with an education support programme to reduce the challenges.

“I target 1,000 out of school children to be enrolled in various primary schools in this area.

“We have already started with 200 pupils who are orphans and the less privileged children.

“We enrolled them in various schools across the political wards of this constituency,” he said.

He thanked the YIAGA Africa and lawmakers for the visit and described it as a timely and good development.

Hassan said that the house of assembly in the state was committed to developing a citizens-led legislative agenda to guide the legislative business.

Speaking for the visiting lawmakers, Assemblyman Adebisi Yusuf (Ibadan South-West Constituency), Oyo State House of Assembly, thanked the host lawmaker for engaging lawmakers from different states in Zamfara’s development programmes.

Earlier, the Programme Officer of YIAGA Africa, Mr Sanusi Olaniyan, said the visit was one of the components of the Legislative Peer Review Mechanism programme of YIAGA Africa for young legislators in the country.

“During the three-day working visit, we were able to meet the principal officers, clerk and some directors of the house.

“We also meet with some committees of the house where we had discussions on how to promote legislative activities in the state”, Olaiyan said.

The visiting lawmakers also interacted with various youths associations in Talata-Mafara North Constituency.
