2 men docked for allegedly stealing passenger’s luggage

Two men were on Monday arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi for allegedly stealing a passenger’s luggage.
The police charged Moses Iorungwa, 35 and Salome Atsaka, 20, who live at Gariba Camp, Daudu of Benue with conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Jonah Uletu, told the court that the complainant, Peter Enenche, reported the matter at the ‘E’ Division Police Station, Makurdi on May 21.
Enenche told the police that on May 21, he went to the Tipper Garage, Makurdi to book a vehicle to Abuja and on his arrival, Iorungwa collected his luggage as a vehicle loader.
He stated further that when the vehicle was ready to move, he couldn’t find his  shuttle bag containing an HP Laptop valued N250,000.00, a Power Bank valued N22,000.00, clothes, shoes and a Smart Watch Charger valued N50,000.00.
The prosecutor said that Iorungwa was arrested during police investigation and confessed to committing the crime with Atsaka.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections sections 97 and 289 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor informed the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked for an adjournment.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ada Jack, admitted the defendants to in the sum of N100,000 each and a surety each in the same amount.
Jack adjourned the matter until July 13, 2026 for further mention. (NAN).
