WHO raises alarm over rapid spread of measles cases

Agege (Lagos), Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) The Chairman, Agege Local Government, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, on Monday met with primary healthcare workers ahead of the commencement of the 2026 Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting held at the council secretariat was led by its Medical Officer, Dr Oluwafunmilayo Ayegbusi.

 

The meeting brought together frontline health workers to strengthen service delivery and tackle challenges in primary healthcare facilities.

 

The council chairman described primary healthcare as the foundation of an effective public health system.

 

He stressed that the success of immunisation programmes depended on the dedication and professionalism of health workers.

 

He assured that the council would provide institutional support to enable it obtain improved outcomes.

 

The chairman added that he would officially flag off the vaccination campaign at Sango Primary Health Centre Child Welfare Clinic.

 

He noted that the initiative aimed at boosting immunisation coverage and protecting children in Agege against measles and rubella.

 

Also, the Medical Officer, Ayegbusi urged parents and caregivers to ensure eligible children are vaccinated as the exercise was rolled out across wards in the council area.

 

Ayegbusi said the campaign was designed to protect children against preventable diseases.

 

“Our priority is to ensure that every eligible child in Agege receives the measles-rubella vaccine.

 

“This exercise is critical to reducing preventable diseases and safeguarding the health of our communities,” she said. (NAN)
