Residents of Gombe metropolis have commended the state government and security agents in the state for taking adequate security measures during the Eid-El-Fitr break.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Gombe, the residents said such pro-active measures made them to feel protected and celebrate the season without any fear.
“We thank God that the celebration was peaceful.Seeing the number of security personnel deployed to various parts of the state during the break, I felt protected,” said one of the residents, Malam Musa Mohammed.
Another resident, Malam Hashidu Mohammed, described this year’s Sallah celebration, as one of the most peaceful.
“If you can recall, two years ago, prayers were observed in the mosque and not Eid ground because of the problem of insecurity. This year, everything was done as recommended by the religion because of the prevailing peace,” he noted
A housewife, Mrs Maimuna Haruna, said she did not allow her children to go out and celebrate the Sallah with friends for fear of the unforeseen.
“I did not want to take chances but I later realised that the celebration was hitch-free. I commend the government and security agents for the measures put in place to ensure that we were secured,” she said.
Mr. Vincent Ekhoragbon, an indigene of Edo living in Gombe, expressed gratitude to God for a peaceful Sallah, saying security was beefed up, making even non-indigenes living in the state to feel secured.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Eid-El-Fitr was celebrated in the state with pomp and amidst tight security, particularly in places of worship, where large numbers of security agents were deployed.
