Australia Police Docks Nigerian Man, Jackson Igwebuike, Caught With Drugs Worth $10m In Ice

A Nigerian man allegedly caught with $10 million worth of the drug ice in his possession in Canberra has appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court.

According to Australian Police, Jackson Igwebuike, who entered the country on a student visa, was charged with attempting to possess 10 kilograms of methamphetamine that police believe was illegally imported from China.

The 32-year-old was arrested as he attempted to board a bus bound for Sydney on Saturday.

Reports say Australian Border Force in Sydney had on Saturday intercepted a consignment of three Chinese statues containing the drugs earlier this month.

ACT police took control of the operation and continued with a controlled delivery of the drugs to Canberra.

Police allege the drugs were delivered to a property in Kaleen in Canberra’s north, where the statues were collected by Igwebuike and then driven to a second location in Kaleen.

Police said Igwebuike had the packages, which were originally concealed in the statues, on him when he was arrested at the Jolimont Centre.

ACT Policing allege more drugs and similar statues were found during a search of one of the houses in Kaleen.

In the ACT Magistrates Court today, Igwebuike entered no plea and did not apply for bail.

Igwebuike, a University of Canberra student, arrived in Australia in July on the student visa.
