ABUJA, Nigeria, June 22 – The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has announced a temporary restriction on non-official travel by its staff and their families to Nigerian military installations and other government facilities in Abuja, citing heightened global security concerns.

In a security alert issued on Sunday, the embassy advised American citizens in Nigeria to remain vigilant, particularly in locations frequented by Westerners, expatriates, and government officials. The alert urged U.S. nationals to avoid large gatherings, reconsider non-essential travel, and vary daily routines to reduce potential security risks.

“Due to increased security concerns arising from current global developments, all U.S. Embassy employees and their family members are prohibited from non-official travel to military or other government venues in Abuja at this time,” the statement read.

The embassy further encouraged U.S. citizens to familiarize themselves with emergency exits when entering buildings and to regularly review their personal security plans.

Despite the travel restrictions, the Consular Sections of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos remain open and operational. The Mission urged American citizens to monitor its official website for ongoing updates: [https://ng.usembassy.gov]
