Businessman arraigned for allegedly stealing cocoa seeds

Okitipupa (Ondo State), Feb. 13, 2026 (NAN) A 50-year-old businessman, Dolapo Akinkuro on Friday, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly stealing one and half bags of cocoa seeds.

The cocoa seed is worth N724,000.

The defendant whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on  stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 24, 2025 at about 2.00 p.m., at Isowa village in Ode-Aye, Okitipupa magisterial district.

He alleged that the defendant stole the cocoa seeds belonging to his customer, one Mr Olufemi Olowodasa from the village where it was packed

He said that the defendant was eventually arrested following investigation by the police.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9), and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

He added that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, and must also  present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

He, adjourned the case until Feb 26, for hearing. (NAN)
