Cambodia records remarkable drop in drug arrests this year
Cambodian authorities said that it had detained 9,828 drug-related suspects between Jan. and Sept. 2021, down 37 per cent year-on-year.
The Anti-Drug Department’s reported on Saturday.
According to the report 6,044 suspects were involved in drug trafficking, possession or manufacturing, and 3,784 were related to drug use, adding that 217 of them were foreigners from eight countries.
“A total of 1,049 kg of illicit drugs, 99 kg of dry marijuana, and 50,088 marijuana plants were seized from the suspects,’’ it said.
The Southeast Asian nation has no death sentence for illicit drug traffickers.
Under its law, anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drug could be jailed for life.
