Jos, Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) A Magistrate’s Court in Jos on Monday sentenced 20-year-old driver ,Victor Jonah to one year imprisonment for stealing a phone from a tricycle.
The Magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of mischief and theft.
Pati, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine for mischief or six months imprisonment and N10,000 fine for stealing or another six months imprisonment.
She said both sentences should run concurrently.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Dec. 29, 2025 at the Gada Biu Police Station by one Alheri Victor, the complainant.
Gokwat said that the convict stole the phone from the tricycle and later called the complainant to come pick up the phone at a location he gave her.
He said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
