An estate agent, Adeshina Olutuyishe, 54, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday over an alleged N150,000 accommodation scam.
The defendant, who resides at No. 8, Bada St., Oshodi, Lagos, is facing trial for obtaining money by false pretense.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The police prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the alleged offense was committed sometime in April 2023 at Mafoluku Oshodi, Lagos.
Akeem said that the defendant obtained N150,000 from the complainant, Mrs. Ekaete Essien, on the pretext of helping her secure a one-bedroom apartment.
He said that since collecting the money, the defendant had been evasive, giving one excuse or another and failing to refund the money when it was demanded.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until April 24 for mention. (NAN)
