4 men in court for allegedly stealing, receiving N27m iron rods

The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned four men at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 45 tons of iron rods valued at N27 million.

The defendants are Sunday Kehinde, 34, an iron bender; Nasiru Adeyemi, 43, a driver; Abayomi Adebayo, 28, a trader; and Yinka Olopade, 42, also a trader.

All four defendants, who reside on the Ibeju Lekki axis of Lagos, are being tried for alleged conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen goods.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offenses were committed in December 2023 at Craneburg Construction Company, located at Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

Akeem alleged that the first defendant, Kehinde, who works with the company, conspired with the second defendant, Adeyemi, to steal his employer‘s iron rods.

He told the court that the value of the stolen iron rods was N27 million.

The prosecutor said that the first and second defendants sold the rods to the third and fourth defendants.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until April 22 for mention.(NAN)
