Flooding: Ekiti LG boss warns residents against indiscriminate refuse dump

The Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area in Ekiti, Mr Bayo Omojola has warned residents to desist from dumping refuse in the drains to avert flooding.
Omojola gave the warning during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ikole-Ekiti.
He explained that most of the refuse being dumped in the drains always blocked the waterways, thereby diverting the water to the major roads and residential apartments.
The chairman advised residents, especially the landlords and caretakers to always clean the drains around their houses to avert flooding during the current rainy season.
“It is no longer news that we are already in the rainy season whereby residents and individuals living in Ikole local government and in the state should ensure regular cleaning of their drains.
“I want to warn that any individuals caught dumping or burning refuse in the drains will be fined to serve as deterrent to other residents.
“I urge our traditional Obas and chiefs to sensitise their people to the danger of indiscriminate dumping of refuse,” he said.
Omojola assured his people that his administration would ensure that the communities under the local government are not affected by flood in the current rainy season.(NAN)
