Governor Hope Uzodimma has dissolved the Imo State expanded executive council, which includes commissioners, special advisers, and senior special assistants. The governor assured that the soon-to-be-reconstituted executive council would still incorporate those who demonstrated exceptional service during his initial four-year term.
Speaking to a gathering of political appointees on Tuesday, Governor Uzodimma expressed gratitude to the outgoing members for their unwavering support, especially during the challenges faced in his first term. He acknowledged their pivotal role in securing the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the Imo State governorship election on November 11, 2023.
The governor credited their collective efforts for his success in winning across all 27 local government areas of Imo State, emphasising the significance of their support and the familial spirit that propelled his triumph.
However, Governor Uzodimma acknowledged the need for fresh faces, ideas, and enthusiasm in the new term. He pledged to ensure that both those directly involved in the administration and those tangentially involved would have reason to be proud of their association with his government.
He appealed to their understanding of his human limitations, vowing to strive harder in the upcoming dispensation to meet their expectations. Despite the dissolution, he assured all members of the former executive council that their continued services would be required, emphasising the importance of their role within the APC family.
Governor Uzodimma took the opportunity to address concerns about the image of the government, expressing dismay at the activities of some political appointees that tarnish its reputation. He reminded them of the expectations regarding ethical conduct, emphasising a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, public asset and fund looting, and other sharp practices.
In a stern warning, the governor emphasised that the new dispensation would not tolerate individuals whose actions do not align with his vision for a better Imo State. As the state moves into a new era, Governor Uzodimma aims to maintain a government that reflects the aspirations of the people and upholds the principles of integrity and public service.
