Mr Dele Oshinowo, the Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos on Monday unveiled ‘One Meal Per Day’ free feeding for 3,000 residents.

Oshinowo, popularly known as Mayor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the gesture was part of his administration’s provision of palliatives to ease the burden on residents during the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to him, the programme is designed to complement the ‘Daily Food Kitchen Programme’ recently announced by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as palliatives to reduce hunger among the poor.

“Before this free meal, I have distributed food items to no less than 9800 less privileged residents of the council in two batches.

“We gave to 5000 people in the first batch, when we distributed 5kg bag of rice and 5kg bag of garri to the poor above 60 years old.

“The second batch saw 4800 residents receiving palliatives such as 5kg bag of rice, 5kg bag of garri, eight packs of noodles and a loaf of bread, distributed from house to house.

“We are still going to continue to give these palliatives, to cushion the pains of this lockdown.

“The “One Meal Per Day” programme we are starting today is for the poor and the less privileged and we target 3,000 residents daily,” Oshinowo said.

Agboyi-Ketu LCDA officials distributing food in its One Meal per Day free feeding programmes for 3,000 resident launched on Monday as palliative during the lockdown.

He said that the feeding programme was being carried out from two distribution centres, which are the council headquarters, Agboyi Road, Alapere and a car wash beside World Bible Church, Ajelogo Road.

The council boss urged residents to remain grateful to the Sanwo-Olu’s administration for all its efforts at tackling the deadly virus and providing palliatives to the vulnerable affected by the lockdown directive.

He said that the feeding programme was made possible due to the financial support provided by the Lagos State Government.

The chairman added that models of implementing the feeding programme had been designed in line with the stay-at-home directives.

According to him, a meal ticket is required to access the venue. (NAN).
