Lagos, Nigeria – Caleb University’s College of Environmental Sciences and Management in Imota, Lagos, is paving the way for a bright future for its architectural students, according to Chief Charles Majoroh, former President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA). Chief Majoroh made this assertion at the recently concluded Lagos Architects Forum, themed “Lagos – An Evolving Organism,” which took place from May 3rd to 6th, 2023, at the Expo Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

In an interview during the Forum, Chief Charles Majoroh expressed his admiration for the quality of the architectural program at Caleb University, praising both the institution and its dedicated lecturers. He stated, “I am very impressed with the flavor of the school and lecturers who are so committed. The future is very bright for Caleb, and they should continue in that trajectory.”

Chief Majoroh, who previously served as the Registrar of the Architect Registration Council of Nigeria and the President of the Africa Union of Architects, also expressed pride in one of his staff members who is a graduate of Caleb University.

He further commended the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects for their innovative initiatives and leading role in hosting the Lagos Architects Forum for the past 14 years.

Caleb University demonstrated its commitment to exposing students to global best practices in architecture by sending the largest student delegation to this year’s Forum. The delegation, led by a team of staff from the College of Environmental Sciences and Management, included the Dean, Prof Oluwole Alagbe, and the Head of the Department, Prof Oladipo Dare-Abel, who participated as a discussant at the Forum. Prof Dare-Abel delivered insightful discussions on sustainability, climate change, and their impact on the development of Lagos State. He also highlighted the focused areas of research at Caleb University’s Department of Architecture, which encompass smart city strategies, zoning and development compliance, passive design, sustainable building materials, building information modeling (BIM), waste management, environmental protection, and the conservation of heritage buildings and sites.

Victoria Ogunleye, a 400-level student of Architecture and one of the student delegates at the Forum, expressed her appreciation for the importance of sustainability in architectural design. She also emphasized the need for thorough research on building materials before recommending their use in construction.

The achievements and recognition received by Caleb University’s architectural students at the Lagos Architects Forum serve as a testament to the institution’s commitment to providing a comprehensive education and preparing students for a successful future in the field of architecture.
