A 25-year-old man, Tajudeen Abiona, on Monday stood before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, in answer to charges bordering on assault and causing willful damage.
The defendant was charged before the Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2025, at Ago Adura in Ota.
He alleged that following a misunderstanding, the defendant assaulted a complainant, one Taiwo Balogun, and hit her with his fist.
Adaraloye alleged that in the process, the defendant also damaged a gold neck lace and an Android phone belonging to the complainant, both valued N215,000.
The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 355 and 451 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the state government.
The court adjourned the case until May 28, for hearing.(NAN)
