Ikeja, Feb. 17, 2026 (NAN) A 60-year-old man, Uchenna Stephen, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting a woman.
Stephen, of Lekki area in Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 12, 2024, at about 11:30 a.m. at 20 Olusesi St., West Bridge Estate 3, by Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos.
Ikayere alleged that the defendant assaulted one Ndidi-Amaka Stephen by beating her with his fist, causing her harm on the jaw.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 173 states that anyone found guilty of assault occasioning harm is guilty and liable on conviction to imprisonment of up to three years.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two responsible sureties.
The case was adjourned until April 28, for further hearing.( NAN)
