Ibadan, Feb. 10, 2026 (NAN) The Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Mr Kehinde Akande, has described women as the backbone of the society, praising their selfless contributions to families and communities.

Akande made the remark on Tuesday at the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Ibadan South-West’s New Year and Award  Ceremony, in Ibadan.

Akande said that the success of a husband would depend on the support of his wife.

“If the husband will last, it lies on the character and support of the woman, wife behind him,” he said.

He praised  the NCWS chapter for support and contributions toward the development of Nigeria, particularly Ibadan South-West Local Government.

Akande pledged  continued support for the chapter’s programmes.

“I understand your worth and urge you to keep on supporting your families and the local government to make more progress,” he said.

The NCWS Ibadan South-West Vice President, Dr Folashade Layeni, urged women to regard support for their husbands as a priority.

She urged them never to deny their husbands food and sex to maintain peace and avoid losing their husbands to girlfriends.

Layeni advised parents to care more for their children and train them in a godly way.

“Parents, especially mothers, should always check on their children and draw them back when they are going the wrong way,” she said.

According to her, a well-trained child will not be a nuisance to the society when he or she grows up.

The Wife of Ibadan South-West Local Government Chairman, Mrs Mojoyinola Akande, urged the women to continue to maintain peace and unity in their homes and communities.

She thanked them for support toward the development of the local government, and prayed for continued peace.

The NCWS Ibadan South-West President, Mrs Idowu Lawal, said  that NCWS existed since 1958.

Lawal noted that NCWS aimed to purse the welfare of women and the youth as well as encourage women to contribute positively to the growth of their communities.

“The monthly stipend we receive has gone a long way.  With it, we were able to learn soap making, etc.

“It is our plan to keep touching lives of women and youths this year in terms of supporting  indigent schoolchildren, influence rehabilitation of some youths, among others.

“All these cannot be achieved without much funding, I appeal to all here to kindly assist us,” she said.

She thanked the local government chairman and his team for supporting the chapter.

The highlight of the event was  presentation of award to the chairman and his wife, the council’s vice-chairman, Mr Tajudeen Adigun,  and some others for support toward the growth of the society. (NAN)
