The Niger state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Salihu, on Thursday said the State government would undertake a comprehensive overhauling of processes of Students Exchange Programme (SEP).
Salihu said this in Minna at the ongoing three-day 17th conference/workshop for Principals, Monitoring Inspectors and Schedule Officers of SEP in 19 Northern states.
The theme of the conference/workshop is “Improving Quality and Sustaining the Ideas of SEP in Education Emergencies in Minna”.
She added that the State government was committed to repositioning and revamping of the management of SEP through comprehensive overhaul of the whole processes of SEP in line with other participating states.
She said the benefits of SEP were to improve academic performance among young people as well as help them interact and share ideas with diverse groups of people.
The commissioner noted that the overhauling would be done with other states participating in the programme.
She, however, urged participants to deliberate with utmost seriousness and assured them of full support of the State government to their recommendations toward the management of SEP.
Earlier in her welcome address, Hajiya Hannatu Goni, Chairman, Monitoring Inspection Unit, SEP Secretariat, Kaduna, said SEP was created to help sustain the socio-cultural and political ties among the participating states.
She described the theme of the programme as apt due to the challenges the education system was experiencing in recent time especially in Northern parts of the country.
Goni said a communiqué would be issued at the end of the three-day workshop for onward transmission to the commissioners meeting for consideration and approval. (NAN)
