January 13, 2024 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky embarked on the second leg of his Baltic tour, arriving in Estonia in a strategic move to bolster international support for Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against Russian aggression.
President Zelensky, accompanied by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, touched down in Tallinn overnight, as confirmed by Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Margus Tsahkna on X, formerly Twitter.
“It’s a great honour to welcome good friends and allies, Volodymyr Zelensky and Dmytro Kuleba in Tallinn. We give a strong message and confirmation to Ukraine that Estonia stands firmly by their side, and together we will win this war,” Tsahkna expressed.
During his initial stop in Lithuania on Wednesday, Zelensky called for critical air defense systems, highlighting Western hesitation in providing aid to Ukraine as a factor emboldening Russia.
“Sometimes the insecurity of partners regarding financial and military aid to Ukraine only increases Russia’s courage and strength,” warned President Zelensky. He added, “He (Putin) won’t finish this (war) until we all finish him together,” cautioning that neighboring nations such as Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Moldova may be at risk.
Zelensky’s Baltic tour includes visits to three former Soviet republics—staunch allies of Ukraine—culminating in Latvia. The Ukrainian leader aims to secure unwavering support from the Baltic nations to counter the ongoing threat posed by Russian military actions.
The tour signifies a diplomatic effort by Zelensky to garner international solidarity and assistance, emphasizing the need for a united front against Russian aggression. As the President concludes his visits to the Baltic states, observers are keenly watching for developments that could shape the geopolitical landscape in the region.
