In commemoration of International Youth Day, GIZ, a German federal enterprise, has trained some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Edo on employability skills.
The training, held on Tuesday in Benin, aimed to equip the corps members with the necessary skills to secure gainful employment after their service year.
The one-day event, with the theme, “From Clicks to Progress,” featured sessions on digitalisation, entrepreneurship, and employment promotion measures.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants were also schooled on high-priority employability skills, Curriculum Vitae (CV) writing, and interview preparation tips.
In her speech, Helen Igboka, Programme Component Manager on Gender and Inclusion of its Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE II), tasked the participants to leverage digitalisation and entrepreneurship to advance their careers.
Igboka said there were opportunities in digitalisation, entrepreneurship, legal migration services, and various employment promotion measures of GIZ that the corps members could leverage.
According to her, these opportunities under its Sustainable Economic Development Cluster (SEDEC) will advance their careers post-NYSC service.
In his remark, Mr Markus Wagner, the Country Director of GIZ Nigeria, said the German organisation aimed to empower the youths with the tools and opportunities needed in life.
Wagner, who was represented by Duke Benjamin, Head of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), said this would ensure a lasting impact and a seamless transition into future careers.
“During this programme, we aim to empower you with the tools and opportunities needed to make a lasting impact and ensure a seamless transition into your future careers,” the GIZ country director said. (NAN)
