The police on Friday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Kenneth Chukwuebube, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N1.3 million under false pretences.
The defendant is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 5, at about 9:15a.m in Ikeja.

The prosecutor said the defendant failed to buy the cell phone and the phone accessories for the complainant as promised.
She also alleged that the defendant stole the sum of N1.3 million belonging to the complainant.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 315(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties.
