Rainoil to host tennis tournament in Lagos

Organisers of the “Rainoil National Tennis Open” have disclosed plans to host the 2025 edition of the tournament in Lagos from Feb. 3 to Feb. 9.

Dr. Gabriel Ogbechie, founder of Rainoil Ltd., represented by his wife, Godrey Ogbechie, made this known during a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said that the event, aimed at promoting tennis development in the country, is scheduled to take place at the Ikoyi Club 1938.

“Today’s event marks another important milestone in the history of the Rainoil National Tennis Open Tournament in Nigeria.

“I am expecting to see an exciting tournament, where we see our young people who have passion and talent for tennis come to play the game.”

He said the competition is expected to be a thrilling event, attracting top players from across the country.

“We are expecting to see an entertaining tournament, collaboration at its best among the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Ikoyi Club, and Rainoil collaborating partners.

”We expect that everyone at the end of the day will have a beautiful tournament,” he said.

Ogbechie commended Ikoyi Club and the Nigeria Tennis Federation for their efforts in making the tournament a reality.

Funmilayo Adako, a representative of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, said the tournament would feature a high level of competition with players vying for top honours and prize money.

She thanked Ikoyi Club for supporting tennis and encouraged other Nigerians to empower sports.

“Top players are expected to participate, including those who have performed well in international competitions.

“We are excited that the tournament, which has been functioning for two decades, continues to pioneer the sport.

“The tournament will be well organised with a smooth schedule and adequate facilities for players and spectators.

“The tournament will offer a significant prize purse, motivating players to perform at their best,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tournament is expected to feature men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies singles and ladies doubles, divided into four groups of four teams

The finals are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 9. (NAN)
