Scavenger admits stealing grinding plates in Ibadan

A scavenger,  Azeez Toheeb, on Thursday admitted stealing  15 pieces of grinding plates before an  Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan,

The Magistrate, Mrs I. O. Osho, will on Jan. 19 review the facts of the case and sentence the 18-year-old.

Osho directed that the defendant should be kept at the Omi-Adio Police Station till then.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Toheeb, who resides at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, was charged with stealing 15 pieces of grinding plates.

The prosecutor, Insp. Foluke Adedosu, had  told the court that Toheeb, on Jan. 13, at 8:30a.m, stole 14 pieces of small size of grinding plates worth  N49, 000 and one big size worth  N7, 000.

“The total value of the stolen items is N56, 000, property of one Suleimon Adedayo of Orisunbare area, Aba-Tisa, Ibadan.

“Toheeb, under the pretence of scavenging, broke into a shop at Agbebukola Market, Omi- Ado, Ibadan, by removing a plank at the back of the shop to gain entry into it.

” He stole 15 pieces of grinding plates and put them inside two sacks before he was apprehended.

” Toheeb ran away without knowing the terrain of the area and was stuck in a stream before he was rescued and handed over to the police, ” Adedosu said.

She said that stealing was punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
