Senator inaugurates ultra-modern skills acquisition centres in A’Ibom
Sen. Chris Ekpenyong, immediate past senator representing Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district has inaugurated three Skills Acquisition Centres in Ika, Ini and Obot Akara Local Government Areas.
Speaking during the inauguration of one of the centres in Obot Akara, on Tuesday, Ekpenyong said the centres were meant to provide training opportunities for youths in the senatorial district.
He said that each centre would deliver peculiar vocational and entrepreneurial courses including fashion design, hair dressing, shoe making, barbing and other skills.
The former Akwa Ibom deputy governor said the skills acquisition centres were also designed to impart practical skills and instill the spirit of innovation and self-reliance among the participants.
“The significance of these centres extends far beyond their physical structures.
“They represent hope for the youth seeking alternative paths to success and economic independence.
“By equipping individuals with relevant skills, this initiative is designed to break the cycle of unemployment and poverty that often plagues rural areas,” he said.
In his remark, Gov. Umo Eno lauded the senator for thinking about his constituents even after leaving the National Assembly.
Eno, represented by his Special Adviser on Political Affairs for Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district, Mr Udo Kierian, said only a leader with conscience could take such huge projects to conclusion after leaving office.
He urged young men and women, who were struggling to find meaningful employment to enrolled in skills tailored to their interests and aptitudes.
“Graduates of these programmes are not just job seekers; but they will become job creators, establishing their enterprises and contributing to the local economy.
“Indeed, Sen. Ekpenyong’s investment in skills development is sowing seeds for future prosperity, ” the governor said.
According to him, beyond the immediate benefits of job readiness, the centres would foster a culture of lifelong learning.
“They represent a sustainable model for community development, one that prioritizes human capital and unlocks the full potential of every citizen,” he said. (NAN)
