Ibadan, March 6, 2026 (NAN) An 18-year-old, Samad Olalere, and six others were on Friday docked at an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan over alleged impersonation on social media.
They are: Daud Ademola, 26, George Thomas, 24, Kim Aruna, 23, Martins Sunday, 26, Mubarak Alade, 21 and Thomas Williams, 21.
They were charged with impersonation, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Owolabi told the court that the defendants committed the offence on March 5, at about 10.00 a.m, at Alakia airport area, Ibadan.
Owolabi alleged that the seven defendants, with the intent to defraud, represented themselves on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Tiktok as white ladies living in the United States.
He added that the defendants used foreign numbers to deceive their victims.
According to Owolabi, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 484 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Olanrewaju granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two reliable sureties each in like sum.
Olanrewaju adjourned the case until April 27, for hearing. (NAN)
