Trader bags 2 years imprisonment for breach of trust, cheating

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday, sentenced a 28-year-old trader, Isiaku ismail to a term of two years at the correctional centre for breach of trust and cheating.

The convict was charged by the police on a two-count charge of cheating a man to the tune of N495,000.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced the convict to one year at the correctional centre with an option of N50,000 fine for the offence of cheating.

The court also sentenced the convict to a term of one year  imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine for breach of trust.

The Magistrate also ordered him to pay a compensation of N495,000 to the complainant or in default to spend another six months in prison.

Reviewing the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that a complainant, one Mr Nasiru Mohammed, reported the case on April 27, at the Nasarawa Gwong Police station.

Gokwat said the convict bought two cows at the rate of N910,000 and deposited N415,000 with a promise to pay the balance of N495,000 but never did.

He said that he was consequently arrested by the police.

The offences contravene the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
