Trader docked over alleged motorcycle theft

Abuja, Jan. 20, 2026 (NAN) The Police on Tuesday, arraigned a 20-year-old trader, Surajo Ahmed, before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court Abuja, for allegedly snatching and  stealing a motorcycle worth N1.2 million.

The defendant,  who resides in Karanmajigi village, Abuja, was charged with  criminal conspiracy and theft.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him..

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Charity Nwachukwu,  told the court that the complainant, Mr Jamlu Ibrahim, of Karanmajigi village Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station on Dec. 29.

Nwachukwu said that on Nov. 2 , the complainant  gave his Bajaj motorcycle  valued N1.2 million to one Musa Salisu for commercial  purpose and to remit N5,000 daily.

She said that on Dec. 29 the defendant and his friend known as Shago now at large, criminally lured the rider  to  Durumi and intentionally snatched the motorcycle from him without the complainant’s consent.

Nwachukwu told the court that the defendant was later arrested at Karanmajigi on the same date, while all effort made to arrest shago, currently with the said motorcycle proved abortive.

 

The prosecutor said that the defendant had made confessional statement during police investigation.

She  said that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with a surety  in  like sum.

Jobbo , ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must produce reliable means of identification.

He ordered that the surety must have a verifiable address,  and thereafter, adjourned the case until Feb. 5 for hearing. (NAN)
