A petitioner, Nkechi Godswill, on Friday, asked a Customary Court in Garki, Abuja to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Mr Agwu Godswill, over alleged emotional torture and abuse.
The petitioner alleged that her husband stopped showing her affection and love since 2011.
She avers that the respondent allegedly resorted to bullying, verbal abuse, and maltreatment, which she said subjected her to severe emotional and psychological distress.
According to her, the situation became unbearable, forcing her to move out of her matrimonial home in a bid to protect herself from harm.
The petitioner also alleged that her husband reported the matter to a village head, who summoned her to the village square where she was allegedly humiliated publicly.
She, consequently, urged the court to dissolve the marriage, grant her custody of her children, and order the respondent to provide accommodation for them.
In response, the respondent, a businessman, denied all allegations preferred against him.
The presiding judge, Mr Festus Enomhonse, has adjourned the matter until May 18, for hearing. (NAN)
