The Zamfara Fire Service on Monday said the State recorded about 35 per cent reduction in cases of fire incidents across the state in 2021.
The State Director of Fire Service, Malam Abdullahi Jibo, who made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau, said 450 cases were recorded as against 700 incidents in 2020.
Jibo disclosed that seven persons who fell into wells in Kaura Namoda, Anka, Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas (LGAs), were rescued during the period under review.
The director said millions of Naira worth of properties were saved by the firemen during the period under review.
He said most of the fire incidents recorded in 2021 were caused by electrical faults, and therefore  advised residents to always switch off their electrical appliances after use.
The director attributed the reduction in fire incidents to the hard work of personnel and massive sensitization of the public on proper handling of fire materials.
He disclosed that the department had received over 42 fire fighting vehicles from the state government, which were deployed across the 14 Local Government Areas in the state.
He called on the members of the public to promptly report any fire outbreak to any of their offices for necessary action.
Jibo warned residents to refrain from keeping petroleum products inside their homes or within the reach of children.
The director advised households to adopt safety measures while using cooking gas or firewood to prevent fire outbreaks in view of the windy harmattan season.(NAN)
