A 20-year old Point of Sales (POS) operator, Terkula Tsevende was on Wednesday arraigned before a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cheating his boss of the sum of N900,000.
Tsevende who lives beside RCM Primary School, Mbayon Council ward in Gwer-East Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Prosecutor, Insp. Jonah Uletu, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Aliade, Gwer-East L.G.A to State CID, Makurdi on June 30, through a letter dated the same day.
Uletu said the letter stated that one Michael Tyoyange reported at the Divisional Police Station, Aliade on May 12, that his younger brother, Felix had given the sum of N900,000 to the defendant to operate POS for him at Ankume Market Square.
The complainant further alleged that, after receiving the money, the defendant converted the same to his own use, closed down the shop, absconded to an unknown destination and stopped picking his phone calls.
The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested during a police investigation for committing the offences.
He said the offences contravened Sections 313 and 324 of the Penal Code Law of Benue, 2004.
However, when the case came up for mention, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor informed the court that investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked for another date.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ada Jack, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 and a surety in the same amount.
Jack adjourned the matter until July 29, for further mention.(NAN).
