A 34-year-old Tunde Ajayi, a driver at Concord School, Ibadan, on Monday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing the school’s car seat belt latch plates.
Ajayi was charged with theft and malicious damage, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 23, at about 4.00 p.m., at Concord School, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Tellang alleged that the defendant stole 10 car seat belt latch plates in one of the buses belonging to the school.
According to him, the defendant also maliciously damaged and cut off all the car seat belt latch plates worth N500, 000.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwaferanmi Raji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
Raji, among other terms, held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, with the same surname.
She adjourned the case until May 20, for mention. (NAN)
