Following his controversial exit as Governor of Nigeria’s apex bank, Lamido Sanusi entered into series of nocturnal strategy meetings in Lagos with his political allies to determine his political career. The outspoken banker had reminded Nigerians in an interview on Thursday that he didn’t ask to be Governor of the Central Bank, adding that he will seek legal interpretation of his removal by President Jonathan in order to protect the integrity of the bank and the country’s financial system.
Lamido Sanusi who arrived Lagos from Niger Republic was received by Nasir el-Rufai, APC’s National Secretary and former FCT Minister, and left for his Lagos residence where he held series of consultations and press interviews before leaving for APC leader Bola Tinubu’s residence on Bourdillion Road ,Ikoyi, a high brow area of Lagos. The meeting commence at about 1a.m. and ended at 4.55 a.m. with Sanusi leaving with El-Rufai.
Sanusi who is also seen as an Emir-in –waiting, is being pressured by his allies to take up the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to challenge President Jonathan in the forthcoming elections in 2015. Having garnered public confidence and trust, the party believes that Lamido Sanusi has better chance than other contenders to challenge the President Jonathan at the polls.
Sanusi will join his APC allies at the Progressives Governors public lecture slated to hold in Ibadan where he will be expected to make statements on his political ambition. There are also indications that Sanusi may not be comfortable with Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate. According to our source, Sanusi may accept to run for the Presidency on his terms which already unsettling most party stalwarts
