Lagos, March 5, 2026 (NAN) A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Gali Shehu, to two years imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Shehu was charged before Justice Alexander Owoeye in February on one-count charge of drug trafficking, which he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following his plea, the Prosecutor, Mrs Juliana Negedu, reviewed the facts of the case before the court and tendered several exhibits as evidence in support of the prosecution’s case.
She had then urged the court to proceed and convict the defendant based on his plea and evidences tendered.
Consequently, the court found the defendant guilty of the offence and convicted him as charged.
Delivering his verdict on Thursday, the court sentenced Shehu to two years at the correctional service.
The court, however, gave the convict an option of N300,000 fine.
According to the charge, the convict committed the offence on Dec. 2, 2025 at Alaba Rago area in Lagos State, where he had two kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority.
The prosecution said Shehu was apprehended by the NDLEA following a tip off, an offence that contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30 Law of the Federation 2004. (NAN)
