Abuja, Nigeria, February 4, 2024: The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; the former President of Liberia, George Weah; and the Chairman and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, Texas, United States, Robert Smith, have all been nominated for the prestigious African Heritage Awards (AHA).
Organised by Heritage Times HT, the event aims to celebrate and recognise the outstanding accomplishments of Africans within the continent and in the Diaspora in various fields such as business, politics, philanthropy, entertainment and the arts, culture, science and technology, and social innovation. The ceremony will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa’s bustling metropolis.
Other notable nominees include former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya and Founder of Mama Doing Good Organisation, Mama Rachael Ruto, and many others.
The African Heritage Awards, known for honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of humanity, will be chaired by His Excellency, Sir Seretse Khama Ian Khama, former President of Botswana. The event is expected to draw former heads of state and captains of industry from across the African continent.
This year’s edition is anticipated to be more remarkable and historic, as it focuses on fostering the African culture of excellence, promoting Afrocentrism, and creating an ecosystem that retells the true African story for the advancement of the continent’s full potential.
The organisers are shifting the venue to Johannesburg, the southern divide of Africa, to specially honour distinguished African personalities who have achieved remarkable feats globally while creating a sustainable impact to uplift others. The Awards will not only confer international prestige and recognition but also highlight the critical importance of culture and leadership in socio-economic and political development in Africa.
The AHA aims to change the global perception of Africans, contributing to the cultural evolution and revolution for sustainable development on the continent. The event will cast a spotlight on individuals who, under challenging circumstances, have empowered Africans and impacted their sphere of influence, paving the way for sustainable and equitable development.
